Who is Herve Barmasse ?

The man who whispered to Matterhorn ears.

Who is Herve Barmasse ?

Italien alpinist, it was written, he will live in the mountains. His family has been working for three generation has mountain guide. But Herve first love is alpine skiing. An accident at the age of 16 left his knee badly injured and compromised his skiing ambitions. He returns in the mountain, by foot with his father to summit the Matterhorn. The discover of this mystical peak sets the beginning of his alpine carrer and the special relation he nourishes with the legendary mountain.

Hervé Barmasse is a well accomplished mountaineer, he seeks constantly new routes. The ones nobody has tried yet, in the most “classical”and purest style. He opened new ways in China, Patagonia, Pakistan… but after going round the globe he came back to the mountains that saw him grow up : Matterhorn, MonteBianco, MonteRosa… A route on the south face of Matterhorn is named after him and his father who unveiled it.

Is classical alpine style owned him the respect of the greatest. As Reinhold Messner said about him : “Some time ago I said that mountaineering had failed, but today I say no, that’s not true, because there are young people like Hervé Barmasse. The young like him defend the true values of traditional mountaineering”

Hervé wrote an autobiographic book “La Montagna Dentro”, we will come back to it when it will be released in English.
