Winning Weekend With A View – Eiger Ultra Trail 2016
The past weekend was a special one for Julbo and the small village of Grindelwald right at the foot of the famous 4k-peak Eiger with its mythic north face. More than 2.200 trailrunners from 63 countries all over the world arrived at that remote place in the Berner Oberland (SUI) to take part in the 4th edition of the Eiger Ultra Trail. On top of that, all the volunteers, supporters and spectators made Grindelwald a crowded place for three days in row.
As a major supplier of high end sunglasses for trailrunning and a proud partner of that exclusive event, Julbo, too was present on the location. Our products being used all over the tracks, we placed our booth right at the entrance of the expo to welcome people to our world and to showcase our highlight – the special as well as limited AERO Eiger Ultra Trail.
Besides Ueli Steck, world known extreme mountaineer, Julbo athlete and race ambassador, there have been quite some other Julbo athletes successfully taking part in the race on different distances. The most overwhelming performance was delivered by yet another pro athlete of the Julbo Team. Andrea Huser from Switzerland crowned herself as Queen of the Eiger by winning the 101 Kilometer Race (longest race possible with over 6.700 Meters of elevation). When she crossed the finish line 13 hours and 9 minutes after the start with a big smile on her face she was even able to quench her thirst with a cold beer as the crowd of spectators in the center of Grindelwald had to wait for half an hour for the second lady completing the supreme discipline. Andrea, who finished 2nd at last year’s race, gave a simple yet perfectly accurate description of her day: “This morning I was just looking forward to a beautiful day on the tracks. And it turned out to be exactly that!”
