MaXi Race: Andrea Huser wins the race, Michel Lanne finishes 3rd
This weekend was the MaXi Race in Annecy (France). This is an 85 km race with 5200m of positive gain and descent that starts and finishes on the shores of the Annecy Lake and passes through the nearby Alps summits.
At 3:30 am, 1400 competitors started the race in Annecy.
Andrea Huser was the favorite for the women’s race according to her latest results. She took the lead of the race after 30 km on the second climb of the day. A few kilometers after, a competitor caught up with her, but she kept the lead and crossed the finish line in Annecy in a time of 10 hours and 38 minutes with a 20 minutes lead from the second finisher.
A stronger field of competitors was on the starting line of the men’s race. After 35 kilometers, Michel Lanne was 5th and only 3 minutes behind the leader. A few kilometers later he picked up speed and overtook his competitors until the la descent toward Annecy (kilometer 70). Unfortunately he lost a place in the last 15k and finished 3rd after 9 hours and 13 minutes of running.
