Skiing trip to Chamonix : on the slopes of the Julbo white Session

Few month ago, Matthieu Giustini discovered Chamonix, a week riding the best bits with Sam Favret, a born and bred local and backcountry ski prodigy.

Find out our fact file of Sam's garden ! Let's go !

Skiing trip to Chamonix : on the slopes of the Julbo white Session

From December to early May, to do the Grands Montets ski area in style.

Of course, the essentials: skis set up for freetouring, telescopic poles, climbing skins, a harness and ropes, just in case. The safety trinity of avalanche beacon/shovel/probe, and don't forget the salami, just because it's so tasty!

SKI PASS:To get to the tops, we recommend the Mont Blanc Unlimited pass (around €60/day and €320/week). Great deal: the pass allows you to ski on the Aiguille du Midi and Les Grands Montets, but also in Verbier (Switzerland) and Courmayeur (Italy)!

On presentation of a card obtained free of charge from your host, you can use a free bus service that drops you at the foot of the diffe-rent ski areas. It also allows you to use the Servoz to Vallorcine train free of charge.

A wide choice of companies, with some located at the foot of the ski lifts

Ultra-comfortable XXL frame, maximized field of vision, super-clear and precise Snow Tiger photochromic double lens, anti-glare filter with polarizing effect, slim frame and a fluid design perfectly suited to wearing a helmet: check out the ideal goggle for living your sport big!

With its Minimalist Frame concept offering maximum field of vision and an ultra-comfortable facial contact area, and a ventilated Zebra light fire photochromic lens for visibility in all conditions including the worst, Universe allows you to let rip whatever the weather

Millimetric adjustment around the head to keep it in place, even when things start to rock. Adjustable ventilation system for better comfort and venting: this light, tough helmet with in-mold technology is the dream companion for long ride days.

Chamonix is not the Mecca of freeride for nothing! You'll be spoilt for choice here. But most important of all, hire a guide from the Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix, the oldest guide company in the world (, to safely get the most out of the valley's treasures. On the Brévent-Flégère ski area, check out the hotel slopes used by the Freeride World Tour.

On Les Grands Montets, the possibilities are endless. From the Plan de l'Aiguille or Aiguille du Midi there are also a host of different options, including the prestigious Vallée Blanche and its variations.

For food, when the weather closes in, head for Le Bistrot! This one star restaurant offers the best value for money in Chamonix with its lunchtime "dish of the day + à la carte dessert" menu for just €20: incredible! And in the evening, check out Maison Moustache for a fondue in an ultra-vintage setting!

For après-ski, make tracks for Élévation 1904 or Chambre Neuf, both near the train station: hideouts for powder fanatics!

And for other cool things to do, don't miss the cable car to the Aiguille du Midi (included in the Mont Blanc Unlimited pass)... and ski down the Vallée Blanche via the "Grand Envers": welcome to the high mountains!

Have a good safe ride !
