Volvo Ocean Race - Leg 2: Smiles and frustration

Volvo Ocean Race - DongFeng Race Team

Charles Caudrelier, skipper of Dongfeng Race Team: “We had a very close fight with Team Brunel for 8 days now! They beat us purely through speed, it’s very frustrating. We could have won so we are a bit disappointed. But at least we beat Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing who is the race favourite. We have a good team, I repeat it, and we try to do the best and prove it on each leg. This leg was complicated. If you told me 2nd place at the start, I’d have signed. So we are happy with that!

Team SCA - Volvo Ocean Race

Sam Davies, skipper of Team SCA: “We are here to race, not just to watch! We are here to lead, not follow! We want to pave a road for the future of everyday women who dare to dream big. We made a navigational mistake which put us behind and then it became a procession. That was hard. It’s all new to us. We’re focusing on everything: speed, settings, maneuvers, navigation, communication. It’s still a learning process.

Start of the next stage (Abu Dhabi - Sanya) on January 3!

Overall Ranking after leg 2:
