What are the risks to your eyes in the cold?

Skiers primarily risk frostbite of the cornea or eyelids. The longer participants remain in the race, the more exposed they are. This can manifest as a foggy sensation in the eye, tingling, and tearing. It will then be difficult to properly distinguish the contours in front of you. If frostbite occurs, there is an increased chance of it recurring. It is therefore crucial to be vigilant.

How to effectively protect against snow and sun?

Snow blindness, a corneal burn caused by the reflection of light on the snow, can also cause sunburn to the eyelids due to the glare. We recommend the use of category 3 lenses.

Are we all equally susceptible to frostbite?

Skiers who have previously experienced frostbite are more susceptible to recurrence. When the body is drawing on its reserves, it directs energy where it's needed most, and the eyes can suffer. However, anyone can suffer from frostbite.

What can be done to avoid problems?

Simply equip yourself and choose a pair of glasses or a visor suitable for your activity. The eyes should be protected during all ski outings, regardless of the weather. Lenses and REACTIV screens are recommended as they adapt to light conditions, ensuring you stay protected no matter what.

When should you use a visor?

A visor is preferred in bad weather when visibility is reduced. It will protect you best from falling snow. If you prefer to keep using glasses, opt for lenses that enhance contrasts, such as REACTIV 1-3 High Contrast. However, avoid contact lenses; opt for prescription lenses instead.

Glasses, protection above all!

Good glasses will protect your eyes from winter weather conditions, sun, cold, and wind, but they can also protect you from a ski pole strike! Especially in a "Mass start" competition, such incidents can occur! Good vision will allow you to enjoy the experience up to the finish line.
