JULES BAUD / THE FIRST CRISTALLIER GLASSES
In Morez, at the heart of the French eyewear valley, a Jura native launched a brand that would not yet be called Julbo, but almost… thanks to its founder’s name: Jules Baud. He started his business by creating optical glasses with a single idea in mind: innovation. In the early 20th century, at the request of Chamonix crystal hunters concerned about protecting their eyes in the mountains, he designed the first “Cristalliers” glasses, marking the beginning of Julbo’s solar optics story.

1950
VERMONT / THE FIRST GLACIER SUNGLASSES
With the creation of the Vermont, Julbo sparked a revolution: from now on, you could go high with well-protected eyes. These “glacier” sunglasses marked the start of the golden age of mountaineering, as climbers set out to conquer the world’s highest peaks. Adopted by both mountaineers and rock stars, they quickly became collectors’ items.

1970
YANNICK SEIGNEUR / TECHNICAL ADVISOR
Julbo didn’t just name its products after summits like Everest, Makalu, or Annapurna. They developed and tested them by climbing 8000-meter peaks such as Everest, Makalu, K2, Gasherbrum II, Broad Peak, and Nanga Parbat—on the face of their technical advisor Yannick Seigneur.

1980
FLUO FUN / FASTER, HIGHER, STRONGER
Entering the “fluo fun” decade, mountaineers went wild for linkups! Julbo supported the performance quests of its special advisors: Éric Escoffier linked three 8000-meter peaks in under three weeks in the Himalayas, while Patrick Gabarrou undertook “Le voyage du Gab,” climbing seven north faces in three days in the Mont Blanc massif.

1990
BABY / FOR BIG AND SMALL
In the mountains, performance was always the focus, especially with the exploits of Christophe Lafaille. Having become a reference brand for sun protection in extreme environments, Julbo expanded its expertise to other worlds and countries. This included the launch of the Nautic range, with Franck Cammas joining the team in 1998, and the creation of the Baby range, so that children’s delicate eyes could be well protected.

2000
MULTIACTIVITY / A NEW WORLD FOR JULBO
In this multi-sport era, Julbo was on all fronts to face every element. Alongside Mike Horn for his incredible adventures around the world, and on trails and tracks, supporting the rise of outdoor sports like trail running and mountain biking, Julbo was everywhere things were happening, with products perfectly adapted to each activity.

2010
RX TREM / A TECHNOLOGY THAT STANDS OUT
Julbo further strengthened its expertise with increasingly technical lenses (Zebra, Zebra Light, Octopus, Cameleon, Falcon) to meet every outdoor need. With the creation of its RX Trem program, awarded a Silmo d’Or, Julbo revolutionized the world of sunglasses. Now, every wearer of prescription glasses can fully enjoy their sport, with the first Julbo sunglasses 100% adapted to their vision.

2015
LABO RX: A 100% INTEGRATED PROCESS
This year, we are strengthening our expertise by integrating an RX laboratory within our company in Longchaumois. Now, the technical lenses of our sports glasses are surfaced to the wearer’s prescription and assembled in-house. A process mastered from A to Z, allowing us to offer you a level of quality, responsiveness, choice, and service never before achieved.
