Draw the Line #3: a great Austrian adventure awaits our mountaineers

And how about doing it again for another adventure shared between our athletes and you?

Draw the Line #3: a great Austrian adventure awaits our mountaineers

After a successful first attempt in the Mont Blanc massif last June, we’ve decided to go for another alpine adventure where you are the heroes! Draw the Line returns this early September, but this time it will take place on a playground that’s a bit new for us: Tyrol. In the world capital of alpine skiing, our local host Philipp Reiter fully intends to show us that ice axes and crampons need to be as sharp as the edges of the world’s best skis. So, ready to join our athletes on the Austrian summits?

A HOST OF CHOICE

When we say Tyrol, you probably think of traditional leather overalls, wild après-skis in Ischgl, or the terrifying slopes of the Streif (Kitzbühel downhill ski course), right? But Tyrol—and the Austrian Alps in general—is above all an enormous alpine playground reaching over 3,800 meters, summer and winter alike! A perfect setting for this second chapter of Draw the Line.

Under the guidance of Philipp Reiter, the local jack-of-all-trades (photography, trail running, mountaineering and… après-ski), the team assembled for the occasion looks impressive, with Caro North and David Göttler. Despite being world-renowned mountaineers who’ve traveled to peaks across the globe, these two have never set foot—or crampon—on Austria’s highest summit: the Grossglockner! So for this “first”, our three athletes want to do it right, choosing little-frequented routes and mixing disciplines (cycling, trail running, mountaineering, climbing and paragliding). And while the main summit is set, YOU DECIDE EVERYTHING ELSE! That’s the concept of Draw the Line: the Julbo community interacts in real time with our athletes via social media to help them draw the line they’ll take on the ground, depending on weather conditions.

Meanwhile, here’s a look at the pedigree of the three athletes you’ll be joining on this half-virtual / half-field epic:

  • Caro North: Our Swiss athlete, just turned thirty, is a mountain woman with a sharp mind—even if she often has her head in the clouds (planning her next climbs). A geoscience graduate and certified mountain guide, Caro is as comfortable on skis as she is climbing big walls. Don’t be fooled by her quiet demeanor!
  • David Göttler: A true machine when it comes to summiting peaks at lightning speed, David is a high-level alpinist specialized in one-push ascents of 8000m peaks. Though born in Germany, this mountain guide has never climbed the Grossglockner—but he’s sure to set a fast pace all the same.
  • Philipp Reiter: A rare breed of versatility, that’s what defines Philipp. Alpinist, trail runner, ski mountaineer, content creator—Philipp is one of the few athletes who can perform on nearly every terrain, alongside the best in each discipline, while also photographing them! He will be the local guide for Draw the Line #2.

AN AUSTRIAN HIGH-MOUNTAIN DISCOVERY

Have you experienced Austria’s high mountains in summer? We must admit—it’s new territory for us! And that’s exactly what makes this project so exciting. For this second edition of Draw the Line, every person involved (our team in Longchaumois, the field crew, and even our athletes) will be discovering this magnificent region day by day—thanks to you. Through polls, questions, and various interactions, this Austrian adventure will be full of surprises.

With just days to go before departure, the only things set are the team and the equipment. So if the weather cooperates between September 6–9, you’ll get to experience slices of life by bike, running, climbing, with crampons—and maybe even flying!

We’ll see you Monday, September 6, at the end of the day, for a departure from Matreier Tauernhaus. More than ever, stay tuned!
