Julbo enters into the world of road cycling at L'Étape du Tour de France 2022!

What better place than at L'Étape du Tour de France 2022 to announce our arrival in the world of road cycling?

For this 30th edition of the event, more than 16,000 cyclists set off to measure themselves against the myth. The challenge: 167km and 4700m height elevation to link Briançon to Alpe d'Huez via the giants of the Tour de France: the Galibier pass, the Croix-de-Fer pass and the mythical ascent of Alpe d'Huez...

For the first time, Julbo was a partner of the world's biggest sports cycling event and the least we can say is that we were not disappointed!

Meet you in the village

Beyond the sporting event, the Tour de France stage is also a very nice popular event where cyclists from all over the world meet. In the start village, there is a lot of excitement in the days leading up to the race.  Participants come with their families and friends to collect their bibs and enjoy the unique atmosphere.

Julbo - Etape du Tour

For Julbo, it was a great opportunity to come and meet this community of enthusiasts and present our sports sunglasses as well as our prescription sunglasses program…. And to introduce you to some of our 2023 products! On this last point, we won’t say anymore for the moment but you can have a glimpse of what we have in store for you by looking at the various photos of the event on our social media! One thing is for sure, these future models were unanimously approved!

A stage to remember

On the sporting side, this year the participants had the opportunity to compete in the most exciting stage of the 2022 Tour de France a few days before the professionals. The latter will also face the same route on 14 July for a crazy stage in the Maurienne!

Julbo - Etape du Tour

After the relatively easy ascent of the Galibier via the col du Lautaret, the course invited the riders to descend to Saint-Michel de Maurienne before tackling the biggest challenge of the day: the col de la Croix de Fer. It is in the middle of this climb that the famous STRAVA Julbo segment was located, which we will talk about later on. A climb of almost 1h30 (for the best) where we had also organised a refreshment for about thirty guests of the Julbo Family. Among them, we found the biathletes Émilien Jacquelin (63rd) and Antonin Guigonnat (199th), but also Arthur Blanc (40th) and our enduro rider Jérôme Clementz (994th). The winners of the competition organised on our Strava club, Patrice and Marie, were also present and exceeded their limits, as did a good number of our internal Julbo staff: well done!

Once the summit was reached, all that remained was to descend to the Oisans valley before setting off again to tackle the 21 mythical bends of Alpe d'Huez! Under a blazing sun, a last big effort was waiting for the riders before they could cross the finish line and proudly display their finisher's medal!

You are impressive!

At the end of the weekend, we can say that you all impressed us on the very demanding course of the Tour de France 2022 stage. We also took the time to look at your results on the Julbo segment  and whatever your time, you can be proud of yourselves (the best competitors are even less than 1 minute behind the KOM - King Of the Mountain)!

By the way, as we told you in the days before the race, we will be holding a draw to reward those of you who completed this section of the Croix-de-Fer pass during the race. If you are not yet a member of the Julbo club on Strava, now is the time to join and try to win your next favourite glasses, the draw will take place this week.

Anyway, we hope you had as good a time as we did at this great event and we can't wait to see you on the bike.  In the meantime, you can keep an eye on  David Gaudu’s performance in the Tour de France, our young athlete is doing very well so far!  See you soon with many nice surprises for cycling fans...
