Originally from Valsesia, the valley leading to Monte Rosa, Mattia Bertoncini grew up in the heart of the mountains and nature. From an early age, this environment shaped his passion for sport and outdoor effort.
He discovered running around the age of 10 through athletics, before naturally turning to the mountains a few years later. From the age of 15, he began taking part in his first trail and skyrunning competitions, then gradually increased the distances as the seasons went by. Today, he particularly thrives on formats between 25 and 50 kilometers, with a desire to further explore the world of ultra-distance.
Among the highlights of his career, one performance will always stand out: his victory at the Dolomyths Run Skyrace 2024, an iconic race on the international circuit.

Season after season, Mattia alternates disciplines according to the rhythm of the mountain. Winter is dedicated to running and ski mountaineering, punctuated by a few competitions, while summer sees him compete on international trail and skyrunning circuits, complemented by training sessions on the bike.
But beyond performance, it is above all the connection with nature that fuels his practice. For him, running and reaching the peaks represents a true balance: a way to clear his mind, refocus, and fully live each moment in contact with the mountains.
Attached to the human values of trail running, Mattia particularly appreciates the spirit that drives this sport: a discipline where competitors for a day often become friends at the finish line.
