Photo Gallery: 2018 Western States 100-Mile Endurance Run
The Western States Endurance Run never disappoints. Year after year we see the world's best talent toe the line in Squaw Valley, California and push themselves to their limit. This year was no different: it was hot, the competition was stacked, and we saw two new champs at the finish line in Auburn.
This year we worked with photographer Luis Escobar to capture a few images of our athletes in action. He pulled together some great images of them working their way through the many stages of the race. And, once things settled down a bit, we caught up with each of them to gather thier thoughts in the aftermath:

"It was a really good day out there and a big improvement on the past few year with a 16:23:32 finish for 4th, despite high temps well over 100 degrees. But the whole field ran better than normal with fewer elites making mistakes, so it was especially competitive.I’m very happy with my run and I'm on track for my goal of 10 top 10s as well as being the first person to get 10 finishes (1,000 miles) under a combined time of a week. I just need to run under 18h06m next year, which would be my slowest time by far (am hoping to convince the race director to adjust the standard 1,000 mile, 10 day buckle to a 1,000 mile, one week buckle." —Ian Sharman

"Wow it was a crazy day and super rewarding first 100 mile for me. I decided early to run my own race and I felt so good, I wouldn’t change this. My downfall in the canyons was the lack of calories I had ‘banked’ up and so I needed to refuel a lot at Foresthill 100km. Then I picked up my pacer and we flew to the finish. It was incredible, it still hasn’t sunk in but I am lying on a beach in Mexico very satisfied with my attempt on the world stage!" —Lucy Bartholomew

"I had a great day until my quad blew up. The last 20 miles were a struggle, as I couldn't run downhill anymore. I lost several places, which was a huge bummer! But, I held it together to finish 6th, so not a bad day. I'm hoping to heal quickly so I can start getting ready for UTMB!!" —Stephanie Violett
