Originally from Valsesia, the valley leading to Monte Rosa, Mattia Bertoncini grew up surrounded by mountains and nature. From a young age, this environment nurtured his passion for sport and the outdoors.
He discovered running at around ten years old through athletics, before naturally turning to the mountains a few years later. From the age of 15, he began entering his first trail and skyrunning competitions, gradually increasing the distances as each season passed. Today, he particularly enjoys races between 25 and 50 kilometres, with a desire to further explore the world of ultra-distance events.
Among the standout moments of his career, one achievement will always remain unforgettable: his victory at the Dolomyths Run Skyrace 2024, an iconic race on the international circuit.

Season after season, Mattia switches disciplines in tune with the mountain's rhythm. Winter is dedicated to running and ski mountaineering, interspersed with some competitions, while summer sees him compete in international trail and skyrunning circuits, complemented by training sessions on the bike.
But beyond performance, it is above all the connection with nature that drives his practice. For him, running and reaching the summits represent real balance: a way to clear his mind, refocus, and truly live each moment in contact with the mountains.
Drawn to the values of trail running, Mattia particularly enjoys the spirit of the sport: a discipline where rivals for a day often become friends at the finish line.
